Rheumatoid arthritis


Rheumatoid arthritis is characterised by persistent synovitis, systemic inflammation, and autoantibodies.50% of the risk for development of rheumatoid arthritis is attributable to genetic factors. Smoking is the main environmental risk. The main symptoms of RA are pain, inflammation and reddishness in joints. There will be whole body burning sensation. Later may leads to deformity in the joints. Ayurvedic treatment and management is highly beneficial in the treatment of RA.


Treatments-

Dhara pizhichil,Vasthi and rakthamoksha. Highly effective in Rheumatoid arthritis treatment along with internal medicine


Course of treatment-

4-6 weeks

Osteo Arthritis


It’s a common degenerative disease of the bones and joints. Any synovial joint can develop Osteoarthritis but knees, hips and small hand joints are the peripheral sites most commonly affected. There will be osteoporosis and special bony growths, severe pain and stiffness in joints, generally starts after forty age. . Typical clinical symptoms are pain, particularly after prolonged activity in weight bearing joints, whereas stiffness is experienced after inactivity.


Treatments-

Pizhichil, pathrapotala swedam (massage with fried leaves), nhavara kizhi and vasthi.


Course of treatment-

3-6 weeks

Cervical spondylosis


This is the condition in which degeneration in the neck vertebral bones, stiffness and restricted movements in the neck occurs. The commonest symptoms are pain and stiffness that which radiates to the back of the head, shoulders and to the hands. Also, , Trouble walking, loss of balance, or weakness in hands or legs ,Muscle spasms in neck and shoulders, Headaches, Grinding and popping sound/feeling in neck with movement are seen.


Treatments-

Dhara, , shirovasthi pizhichil, patrapotala swedam and nasyam


Course of treatment-

2-4 weeks.

Backpain


This may be due to disc prolapse, degeneration, or either internal organic problems. It may be experienced as pain that aching, burning, stabbing, sharp or dull, well-defined or vague. The intensity may range from mild to severe and may fluctuate. The pain may radiate into one or both buttocks or even into the thigh/hip area. In this condition severe back pain, restricted movements, difficulty in forward bending, etc are the main symptoms. The pain aggravates while doing work.


Treatments-

Kativasthi,dhara, vasthi, footmassage, and special marma management.


Course of treatment-

2-4 weeks.

Hemiplegia


Hemiplegia is a condition which affects one side of the body .It results in severe or complete paralysis of one side of the body. This condition is usually caused by brain diseases that are localized to the cerebral hemisphere opposite to the side of weakness; less frequently, brain stem lesions; cervical spinal cord diseases, peripheral nervous system diseases, and other conditions may manifest as Hemiplegia. Blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, smoking, stress, tension, Stroke, embolism are the key factors for paralysis.


Treatments-

Shirovasthi, pizhichil, vasthi, nasyam, etc..


Course of treatment-

4-8 weeks.

Facial paralysis


This is paralysis of part of the face caused by non-functioning of the nerve that controls the muscles of the face, especially the muscles around the eye and to the mouth. Facial paralysis usually affects one half of the face. The common symptoms are- There is a flattening of the affected half of the face, with loss of the forehead wrinkles and horizontal lines, a droopy eyebrow, difficulty closing the eye, an inability to whistle and the corner of the mouth pulled down.


Treatments-

sirovasthi ,Kseeraadhoomam, karnapooranam, nasyam, etc...

Frozen shoulder


Frozen shoulder also called Adhesive capsulitis, causes pain and stiffness in the shoulder. The main symptoms are, decreased motion of the shoulder, pain, stiffness. Frozen shoulder without any known cause starts with pain. This pain prevents you from moving your arm. Lack of movement leads to stiffness and then even less motion. Over time, you become unable to do movements such as reaching over your head or behind you. Diabetes mellitus is one main reason in this case.


Treatments-

Abyangam, pathrapotalaswedam, nasyam marma management, foot massage and nasyam

Psoriasis


Psoriasis is a debilitating skin condition that can affect the elbows, knees, scalp, lower back, face and indeed, any part of the body, including the genital area. It may also affect the fingernails and toenails making them thick and discoloured. It is a skin disease of unknown specific reason . It is of 2 types – dry and oozing. Itching and scales will be there in the skin. Generally it aggravates along with tension.


Treatments-

Snehapanam, thakradhara, abyangam pizhichil, kasayavasthi, rakthamoksam

Diabetes mellitus


The term Diabetes Mellitus describes a metabolic disorder of multiple aetiology characterized by chronic hyperglycaemia with disturbances of carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. The effects of diabetes mellitus include long– term damage, dysfunction and failure of various organs like brain, heart, kidney, liver and retina. Diabetes mellitus may present with characteristic symptoms such as thirst, polyuria, blurring of vision, and weight loss. Heart attack and one side Paralysis are the major complications of Diabetes mellitus.


Treatments-

thakrdhara, thalapothichil, mild abyanga(oil massage).

Obesity


Obesity increases the likelihood of various diseases, particularly heart disease, type 2 diabetes, certain types of cancer, and osteoarthritis. Obesity is most commonly caused by a combination of excessive food energy intake, lack of physical activity, and genetic susceptibility, although a few cases are caused primarily by genes, endocrine disorders, medications or psychiatric illness. The condition includes the Overweight of the body, loose body muscles and fat, etc. And all these may leads to heart problems, kidney problems and produce complications to brain.

Varicose vein


Varicose veins are veins close to the skin that are swollen, twisted, or stretched. Veins in the legs and pelvic area are most often affected and often look blue, twisted, and enlarged. Varicose veins are more common in women. Common symptoms are swelling in the legs, cramps or general aching in the legs or aching in the area where the veins are swollen, feeling of heaviness in legs or leg muscles that tire easily, itching of the skin around the veins, sores on your skin especially near the ankle from poor circulation

Epilepsy(apasmaram)


Epilepsy is a brain disorder in which a person has repeated seizures (convulsions) over time. A seizure, commonly referred to as a fit, is caused by sudden, brief changes in the normal electrical activity of the brain. Symptoms vary from person to person. Some people may have simple staring spells, while others have violent shaking and loss of alertness. The type of seizure depends on the part of the brain affected and cause of epilepsy.

Infertility management


Infertility primarily refers to the biological inability of a person to contribute to conception. In women, it may also refer to the state when she is not able to carry a pregnancy to its full term. Head ache

Gynaec diseases


Sthreeroga(gynaecology) deals with various types of diseases and conditions that affect a woman, ie all the diseases from puberty, menstrual disorders and related to menopause. Management of Stree Roga ( Gynaecological diseases) is by Panchakarma ( five methods of purification ) especially Uttarabasti , Oral medicines and Local application of medicine in the form of oil , decoction , paste etc as vaginal tampoons , douche , fumigation etc. The Ayurvedic treatment not only cures the pathology in reproductive organs but with holistic approach, treats the woman as a whole, thereby improving the general health also.

Piles


iles, also known as Hemorrhoids, are when the veins located in the lower rectum and the anal canal become swollen and dilated. These dilated veins (varicose veins) become convoluted beneath the tissue layers and appear similar to a ball of hair covered by a cloth. Piles may occur due to straining during bowel movement. It often occurs in the case of chronic constipation where increased pressure is required in order to make the bowels move out of the rectum and anal canal. Piles may also develop during pregnancy due to the additional weight in the pelvic region or as a trauma during child birth. Most of the Diabetic patients develops Piles. Chances of infertility is the another side effect of Piles.
